Note Writing and Lost Turtles

A few weeks ago, Grade 5 students had two fun activities for the week.

Let`s start with English Language.

We spent one week on note writing, learning about the format, purpose, tone of a good note. Once we finished analyzing examples, students started writing their own notes. One of each note went to their notebooks and the other one was posted on a bulletin board for that class.

You can also check these links out to see the presentations students used during the lesson.

The very same week, in English Literature, we read the chapter in which Benjie and Ezzie found a turtle in Garbage Dog`s mouth. In that week`s assignment, students changed places with Ezzie and Benjie; and decided to make posters to find the owner of the lost turtle. Here are some of the most beautiful and elaborate posters.

Grade 5 students have worked really hard during the first quarter of the year and deserved the upcoming break. But before we went on holidays, we decided to get together in the school hall and enjoy a nice movie. The first movie of the year was `Dolphin Tale` and we`re all looking forward to the next one!

`Everyone Deserves Respect` by Grade 5

As mentioned in the earlier posts, Grade 5 students have been preparing `Anti Bullying` posters in their English Literature lessons. Today four of them were on the wall for you to check them out and support their cause.

Ainie`s Story

This is one of those homework assignments that truly amaze and inspire me. After choosing 9 random verbs from the board, students were asked write a short story about it over the weekend. This is what Ainie from 5B wrote.

Congratulations to Ainie for her great talent in writing and I hope she keeps up with her hard work.

Caricature in Literature

Last week, students of grade 5 were given an opportunity to show their creativity to their classmates and to the viewers of our blog. The assignment was to draw a caricature of Marv Hammerman based on only the descriptions given in The Eighteenth Emergency.

The outcome of the homework assignment was amazing, they truly came up with impressive drawings as I checked each and every one of them with amazement. And now I am sharing some of the very best ones among the pictures with you.

Enjoy!

Anti Bullying Posters - The Eighteenth Emergency

In English Literature, as you know, we are reading and analyzing a novel called `The Eighteenth Emergency`. It`s about a small and weak boy called Benjie `Mouse` Fawley and his adventure in trying to run away from his bully Marv Hammerman.

Since this book chooses `bullying` as its main theme, we are doing a lot of anti-bullying related work, such as group discussions, posters and campaigns.

The first project we had was to prepare Anti-Bullying posters in groups. The students were given absolute freedom; from what kind of material they wanted to use in their posters to what they wanted to write on them.

Some groups decided to inform their readers about the reasons and consequences of bullying whereas some others started their own little `petition` to fight against bullying and stop it in their community.

Below, you will find pictures both of the students as they were preparing their posters and of some of the posters after they were completed.

We are currently displaying some of these posters on the blue wall near the front gate at school.
